He may be about to take on The Mummy, but Cruise has another action-packed movie out this summer.
Playing the real-life Barry Seal, he says: “I was working for the CIA, the DEA and Pablo Escobar.”
The official synopsis reads: “Tom Cruise reunites with his Edge of Tomorrow director, Doug Liman (The Bourne Identity, Mr. and Mrs. Smith), in this international escapade based on the outrageous (and real) exploits of a hustler and pilot unexpectedly recruited by the CIA to run one of the biggest covert operations in U.S. history.
So just who was this Barry Seal?
An American smuggler, Seal shifted drugs and arms by flying flights for Escobar’s Medellin Cartel.
A former commercial airline pilot, he was fired by his company in 1974, he began earning as much as half a million dollar per flight from Colombia to the United States by shifting cocaine.
After bring caught, he was sentenced to 10 years in prison, but was approached by the DEA to become an informat in 1984.
With assistance from the CIA, he aided the infiltration of the Medellion Cartel through a sting operation.

The Cartel offered a reward of $1 million to kidnap Seal and half to kill him and in February 1986 he was shot dead in Baton Rogue by Columbian assassins.
